Yeah, that was smart actually

I'll try this cause I did have issues with the Xperia companion after Android 12 and didn't know where to go

But thanks for the tip, I'll try it and hopefully it will work.

So I have ran a repair on Xperia Compaion after a support agent suggested and now the device is bricked.

I get the error 'your device is not trusted' and it will shut down in 5 seconds. I haven't had any luck forcing a repair. Is there any chances that Xperia companion is unable to repair Android 12 firmware? I have tried the same procedure on a Windows 11 and Windows 10 PC and same result.

I have been in touch with support and after days of explaining the issue I am now waiting for someone to 'investigate it ifurther' despite me sending a video of the issue. I have not tempered with the handset in any way, in fact, I only had it for about a week and have barely used it for texting and some pictures due to lack of time for getting to know the handset.

After 5 days of not having a resolve fro Sony support I have managed to repair my handset installing the ADB driver (usually used for debugging or developers) listed on Sony's site as Cryasor suggested on the post below

https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/1-series/xperia-1-iii-hangs-windows-explorer-windows-11/m-p/3860856#M8340

It seems the cause for failure was due to the handset not installing this driver on your PC as it should, therefore Xperia Companion is unable to communicate properly with the device if repair is needed.

Maybe Sony should have a look at this and implement a fix so either:

1) Xperia Companion installs the ADB drivers on your PC automatically or

2) When plugging in your Xperia to your PC installs the ADB driver as well.

I will report this to support if they reply to me as I've not heard back in 2 days and nobody is at risk of this issue.

Hi @Anonymous

Yes, so after the installation of this driver Xperia companion was actually able to repair the firmware. I have done this twice (the second time I have bricked it in purpose so I could capture the issue on video and send it to Sony)

I have uninstalled the ADB driver and rebooted my PC, then started the procedure of repairing, which eventually failed and bricked the phone.

I then reinstalled the driver and rebooted the PC, performed a repair OK.

When the ADB driver is installed it will always be on the status below on device manager and possibly due to it being the wrong driver for the XQ-BC52 (the driver on the Sony website is for the Asian models only (XQ-BC72, SO-51B, SOG03, A101SO) and not EU (XQ-BC52). However, it somehow does the job of allowing Xperia Companion to perform the repair.

The driver is on the Sony developer site https://developer.sony.com/develop/drivers/ if you select the 1 III.

FYI - Xperia Companion update has been rolled out today apparently. Unsure whether this issue was fixed or simply they have fixed something else as I can't see release notes. Anyone fancy testing?🤣
