PCG-K115M LCD flicker problem

My K-Series laptop is about 6 months old and recently the LCD has started to flicker in an erratic "up and down" fashion nearly all the time.

Also some colours (mostly lighter) on the screen are fuzzy or look like the static you see on an untuned channel on a TV. Giving the screen a slight knock where it joins the main unit by the power light seems to fix the problem sometimes but it inevitably comes back once the lid has been closed and opened.

I am told this is very probably a loose LCD cable problem, which would make sense but I have been quoted almost £120 not including parts to fix this by an independent laptop repair centre specialising in Vaios.

Does my warranty cover this or something? The shop i bought it from do not take responsiblity after 1 month but instead gave me a phone number for Sony which didnt work.

Can anyone please give me a phone number or URL or anything, even tips or suggestions on how to solve this problem without spending a silly amount of money on something that should really be covered by Sony?

Im having it repaired when i come back off holiday, how long does it take to get stuff back from sony? Weeks, Months? Years??!

I've had a turnaround time of 3 days . . . . . but then again I've also has a turnaround time of 6 weeks

Sony always seem to have such good quality products, it seems wierd that their laptops are quite often faulty too me! mind you, I brought a cheap 1 for a Sony, £800 for a 2.8ghz machine, no wonder! lol

Yes, I never actually got the one I sent away. They finally gave me an upgrade . . . . . and an extension to the warranty (which was also needed because the motherboard subsequently failed after 13 months )

Guh,

Warranty expired the day I phoned them up, which was lucky as it was still covered. Was collected a month ago but had no change on the Repair status website or anything :S

Decided to hassle them with eSupport instead, Ill phone by end of the week but they quoted a 10 day turnaround on this :@

Your best bet is the telephone. Be polite but assertive and get them to escalate the repair.

I would give them another week or so then ask them for a replacement if they don't manage to repair it in that time.

I got mine back today, was a loose connection.
But, they also gave me a brand new battery, and, for some reason, a brand new DVD Drive... cant complain at that!

eSupport started working today so I was on there quick as a flash checking my case details.

Appears they need to replace the whole LCD, and there simply arent any available

Left a note saying the thing was urgently needed and was a replacement out of the question if-its-the-quicker-solution :smileygrin:
