Do you ask because you feel your machine is running hot. If so how hot?

Some Sony machines can tend to run on the hot side but providing the temperature stays below 90c you'll be fine.

yeah i have the feeling that my notebook get too hot.
The "normal" temp is about 55-60 degrees and if i do something more intense stuff (rendering a scene with opengl..) it can go up to 80+

i cant believe thats healthy for a centrino cpu

Sorry, I have to disagree there Rizla. A temperature approaching 90c is far too high for this model and will eventually cause damage. Mid 40’s would be normal but possibly in the 70’s under extreme conditions.

Temperatures of 55 to 60c are of no great concern and yes under extreme conditions 70+ will occur.
My concern was that you were not experiencing temperatures approaching 90c on a regular basis.

Switch you power adjustment properties from 'Performance' to 'adaptive' as per reccommendation given to me by the venrable GB and I have my idle down to 43 degrees with a 3.06Ghz CPU

About 55C when it's doing nothing other than web browsing and is running at reduced speed. That's after being powered up for over 4 hours.

i cant believe that this heat issue is still on these models. i have the s3xp and had the same problems, is there heat on the bottom right side of the unit which is almost to hot to touch, it used to leave red marks on my legs when using on my lap. mine has cooled down for months now touch wood but ive seen alot of people on here with the same issues regarding the heat of the machine, i have read reviews in a magazine called 'what laptop' which mentions the heat is a concern,

yeah, heat is def. still a problem. i read somewhere that the nvidia card in these models has a serious heat problem.

i think thats **** up. if i do NOTHING with the notebook, it runs at 50-60 degrees and if i do something the temp. walks up to 80 degrees ?! wtf..
how long will the cpu play along ? damned sony..

Intel say the Pentium M has a critical temperature rating of 100C so according to Intel 80C is an acceptable temperature for this processor.

Could get a little warm on the legs though . . . . . .

They must run cooler. Thats why some guys don't hear their labtops. Unless these clicks of the harddisk. That's why laptops with Mobile-Desktops CPUs are mostly much more load. I agree, AMD CPUs are really cooler, if we talk about desktop CPUs. And the AMD Thurion looks like a interesting alternative to Pentium Centrino.:smileycool:

Centrino and Thurion are designed for this temperatur. Because everone want more power with less loadness and more battery lifetime. You can't get that from a 100 watts light bulp.
