Has anyone successfully connected an RS232 device to their Sony laptop? I want to connect an Icom PCR1000 scanning receiver to my K415b but cannot get the laptop to see the PCR1000.

I have the USB/RS232 cable adaptor, the drivers are installed correctly and the COM port is 1. Reporting as OK in Device Manager but my PCR1000 software does not communicate with the COM1 port.

Thinking that the USB port on the laptop is USB2 and the USB-RS232 cable is USB only I put a USB hub into the laptop but that made no difference.

Any ideas please?
TIA
John

A lot of applications that use the RS232 port use direct addressing rather than the O/S calls. Ther is usually no workaround for this problem.
