Hi cf2,
Firsly make sure that your Caps lock is off, if that makes no difference try this:

EDIT: Sorry it is Shift + Num LK, not Caps lock to turn off the numeric function, but the following still applies if you get no joy with that.

1.Click Start, click the Run command and type REGEDIT in the open text box. Click OK. This opens the Registry Editor. All the usual precautions for editing the Registry apply.
2.Browse to the following location in the left pane of the Registry Editor:
HKEY CURRENT USER\Control Panel\Keyboard
3.In the right pane, right click on InitialKeyboardIndicators and click the Modify command.
4.In the Edit String dialog box, enter the number from the following list that matches want you want to do:
0 - all indicators off
1 - Caps Lock on
2 - Num Lock on
3 - Caps Lock and Num Lock on
4 - Scroll Lock on
5 - Caps Lock and Scroll Lock on
6 - Num Lock and Scroll Lock on
7 - Caps Lock, Num Lock, and Scroll Lock on
5.Click OK in the Edit String text box and close the Registry Editor. Restart the computer.
