Everytime I run the backup utility, my system crashes. I can also hear some clicking noises on my laptop. When I hear this noise I know that the system will crash. Does anyone else have this problem. I want to run the backup utility in case my hard drive fails. I sometimes get an error due to my graphics device driver which appears on a blue screen with white writing.

Try running a complete scan using scandisk to see if there are any problems with your hard drive.

Boy, that was quick. Thanks Rob.

I have tried running in a scandisk which only seems to work when the laptop is starting up. It gets to 4 out of 5 of the scandisk run and does not seem to go any further.

It could take a long time to scan. Give it plenty of time. If it won't complete then there is a good chance that your hard drive is dodgy.

If you think that you may be going to suffer a failure then do a file by file backup of your important stuff ASAP.
