2015 Bravia Android TV Issues

I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!

1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435

2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.

3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360

4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.

As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

If you've turned them off, then the only thing you can do is make a rule on your email client to delete them/block them...

Has anyone had a USB drive connected to their Android TV wipe itself/become corrupted?  I have had this twice now and I am always careful to only remove it when the TV is off.  When it happens the USB drive is no longer recongnised by the TV or a computer until it is reformatted.

This most recent time I noticed it was a few days after the last firmware update so I am wondering if that had anything to do with it.  It was in during the firmware update (which was done online, not from USB), but Im not sure now if I used the drive at all after the update and before noticing it was corrupted.  I haven't seen any instruciton to remove USB drives when updating.

Did i miss the date change from 28th Feb to 31st March , or did i just dream that ?

These fantasy release dates are a joke , another 4 week slipage in less than a week ??

Yet today the website still touts HDD rec and PIP/PAP as a feature on these TV`s

So, now date Number 5 is the plan, I really suspect the HDD feature will / has been dumped , Sony are playing us for fools , maybe they are hoping we`ll get fed up complaining ???

Another sincere special thanks to Quinnicus for his willingness to help us Sony Android 4K TV purchasers and take up our issues with Sony. I follow this thread and find it most helpful.

@tom.waller

While the sluggishness is often observed, these sets can go very fast when they want to (which is why I have certain reservations about Caledonian_TV's observations about hardware limitations, wondering if this is not actually just poor software again).

Hold down the On/Off button on the remote for just over eight seconds, and let the set soft reboot.

Does the performance seem improved, possibly even fairly snappy, now?

YouView Superuser, but not an employee of YouView, nor retained by them for this purpose. It's purely me speaking

Does anybody know why the estimated PIP/PAP dates vary between the UK and ROI?

I can't see any other obviously related features that may be dependent/have dependencies on this being released.

The UK sets have YouView, the ROI sets don't.

My point is really rather more that the set lacks the processing power to deal with the 'bloatware' that's loaded onto it...  A stripped-back 'bare ones' option would, I'm sure make for a much more satisfactory product...   Try stopping/disabling unused apps; you'll find this eases the situation slightly.

v2645 what are we on now in the uk?

Just got a notification on the Sony support app on my phone, I can't be arsed to look now because I'm just home off nights.

Got the same notification, also says it's the 10th December firmware, so nothing new.
