Hello,
I have a XE90 sony tv and also an Asus RT-AC87u router. Do you know if it possible to connect a external HDD to the router (USB 3.0 Port) and access the content through the TV ? (movies, photos, etc. )

If I am going to play a movie with a subtitle in SRT file format, on android devices I mostly use MX Player. If it has same name it runs automatically.. Also this play has a feature to search specific subtitle web sources for alternative subtitles.
You should give it a try.

Thanks for the hint, I will also try this. At the moment I am using Kodi to access the media from my HDD and it can also read the srt files.
Also, has anyone expericend performance problems with the SONY TV player when playing big size 4K Movies from the HDD ? I have the same problems with VLC Player, but not with KODI.
Thanks,
Daniel

When I use Kodi through SAMBA I am experiencing performance problems with big 4k movies. But when I use Kodi and access the data through the Media Server everything works smooth.
