KDL-28EX550 and firmware updates

I picked up an old (2012) Bravia TV (KDL-28EX550) but it fails when checking for software updates.

I can see from network logs that it connects to

http://ssm1.internet.sony.tv/DTV/index.xml

and it gets a response of

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<rule>We must use time as a tool, not as a crutch.</rule>

which I suspect is not what it expected.

So ... is this a temporary problem at the Sony end or have things been changed to stop it being able to do this check?

The latest update for your tv was released 5 years ago, so probably it is already installed on your tv. You can anyway check it and install it via usb if you want

https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/lcd-tvs-legacy-lcd-tv/kdl-26ex550/downloads/Z0000283

Keep in mind in any case that being so old your internet tv features are very limited as of now, next to nothing (i suppose even youtube is not supported anymore...)

Thanks - very useful. I will install it today.

I had found and risked updating via USB to PKG1.920EUA earlier today (firmware is on the Sony site but was not listed against this TV on Sony site but was elsewhere).
The TV was on PKG1.114EUA prior to this. I suspect that elderly aunt who had it before had never connected the TV to internet.

Is there a reason why the official page for this TV does not link to the legacy firmware update?

Just installed it (PKG2.120EUA) ... and ... it fixed things.

So now can access internet content and I was a bit surprised to find that BBC iPlayer was listed and works. I am pretty sure that on another (better) Sony TV I have the iPlayer stopped working.

Arte works as well.

Thanks again.

ignore the question .....

"Is there a reason why the official page for this TV does not link to the legacy firmware update?"

I see that it did ... I had not followed the link from that page because I did not associate "Improve your performance" with a firmware download.
