Pairing remote with SKY box

Hi, trying to run our SKY through the TV remote.  Connected the IR leads and 'tested' several times and can not get it to find the sky box.  We have placed and moved IR leads in several placed and next to the sky box with no luck.

The sky box works fine on the TV using its own control but we wanted to link the functions on the SONY TV control so we only have to use 1 controller.

The TV is new and put up today: model KD-55xf9005BU

Any advice? thanks.

Hi @kselvey

It is normally the other way around. If you watching Sky then you use the Sky remote to control Sky and the input, volume and power on the TV. You cannot control the Sky Box from the TV remote.

Thanks, however, since setting up the TV the skyremoe will change sky channels but not the volume anymore and the TV remote will do the volume.

We were told when we purchased it we could control sky via the controller plus when setting it up it tells us we can and to use the IR attachment.

Hi @kselvey

If you follow the instructions on this help page it will show you how to program your Sky remote to change the volume, input and power on your new TV  https://www.sky.com/help/program-your-remote

Hi @kselvey

This is not something I would use as the Sky Q remote does everything I want but I thought I would give it a go. After a quick search I found my IR Blaster and plugged it into the TV. I followed the setup instructions below and it found the Sky Q box without any problems. (I suspect it thinks my Sky Q box is an old Sky+HD box). Everything shows up in the Sync Menu but if I try to control the Sky Q box I get a communication error. Looks like it doesn’t work with Sky Q but I see several reports that it works with Sky+HD.

If you call Sony Support during office hours you should get some help setting it up.

I have just spent £1,368 on the 2019 KD-55XG9505 model. Can switch it on/off/volume using my Sky Q controller, but can't do the reverse. This is really annoying as I hence need to use both controllers given the extra TV features. The issue appears to be that Sony has included codes for Sky+ but not for the Sky Q. It finds the signal OK, and attempts to pair using the three embedded Sky codes, but then fails. Unlike many past Sony 55" models, this 2019 does not contain an IR Blaster. Still looking for solutions..... help appreciated....

Hi @Noah4x4   It wouldn’t matter if you did have an IR Blaster. The Sky Q codes are not included in that as well. Personally I use a Harmony Elite. There is no Sony solution for any Sony TV.

Thanks. I have wasted three days following Sony's initial Set Up instructions "how to pair your TV remote control with your cable/satellite box", whilst trying to find on-line guidance in the absence of a proper printed instruction manual. Emails to Sony Support, Currys/PC World have all failed to elicit a response except in connection with pre-2019 models. Why do Sony promote this use a single TV remote feature in the UK when it patently doesn't work?

What too is the point of building in "APPs" directly into the TV when it can't deliver (say)  Sky Sport or BT Sport without a seperate Cable/Satellite Box which already includes these same (Sony) APPs. I could have saved £400 and bought the 2018 or earlier model, but was upsold that this 2019 model was superior because of these features. I have since turned off the intrusion of Google and the Android feature is slow compared to my Samsung tablet. Now, I am convinced that I should have paid £1,000 less for a simple 4K UHD TV to be paired with Sky Q (albeit with seperate remote controllers). But my wife thinks it's better........oh well..........others be warned.
