BATTERY TIPS for PCG-K215Z SONY VAIO

Hi,

I am a noob about notebooks batteries.. so please need help if someone can provide for me so infos about.

1. Is it necessary to format the battery (ex: 12h chargeing etc)
2. If I want to get it out of my laptop and not use it for 1 week or 1 month how should I store it properly? (for example: should the battery be charge 100% or never less then 50% or it should be empty?)

Thank you in advance,
pixelxxxxxx

Hello,

If the battery is new, i would recommend charging it overnight to make sure its at full capacity, then to fully decharge it and do a standard charge. This isn't necessary but it's what I would do to ensure it keeps to a full charge from the beginning.

I don't actually think it matters how you store the battery, but I always have done with a full charge. It tends not to last as long when I do go back to using it, but after a charge its back to normal.

Sony say...

"The battery pack supplied with the computer is a lithium ion battery and can be recharged at any time. Charging a partially discharged battery does not affect battery life. The battery indicator light is on while using the battery pack as a power source. When battery life is nearly over, the battery indicator starts flashing."

Will.

I charged my battery for first time over night .. about 16h i guess it staied .. but would it matter if the laptop was off or on? as i installed the windows from VAIO cds and then i turned it off..and let the power to charge over the night. So is it important if the laptop is shuted down or i should have charged it with it started?

I guess its better to let the battery charged and put it apart. Also i guess if i will not use it for a month i should used it at least 1 time to charge it and discharge it just in case?

For how manny years this battery will work?

As long as the power is on the laptop itself can be switched off and the battery will charge.

Some people, myself included, are of the opinion that it is better to take the battery out when not using it, i.e. on mains power; although there are many who don't with no apparent side-effects.

The latest info I have seen is that Li-ion batteries should be good for 2 years. Anything after this is a bonus. My own is now 14 months old and showing no signs of deterioration.

I don't feel it makes a great bit of difference really.

Well it's not about opinion it's that about the cicle of life of battery if you charge it often then the life of the battery gets shorter. Normaly the battery should be charged with low voltage not in 3h at higher voltage but in about 30h or something like that. I am no expert but I read somewhere about batteries. So thats why is better not to use it often if you dont need it. Ofcourse in 2 years the battery will start to get bad. But you can improve this if u use it when u need it. (Sorry for my English)
