Sony Vaio VGN FS315B and Windows 7 Fn probs

HI,

I have just installed Win7 and now I cannot find the drivers for the wireless card. It does not even appear on Device Manager.

I have connected it directly to the router via ethernet but this is not ideal.

I am on the http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/ website but it keeps hanging.

Really need to sort this out asap.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Cheers

Ive fixed the wireless..not sure how but it works...but it is quite slow, web pages take a long time to load. Is there anything i can do to speed it up?

Also, the FN buttons do not work which means that I cannot turn down the brightness

Such a pain this upgrade has been,

Can anyone help?

Which wireless driver do you have installed?

Unfortunately, Sony do not support Windows 7 on your model.

Fortunately, most of the Vista drivers and utilities will work with Windows 7 so I would try installing IN ORDER: -

1.  Sony Utils DLL

2.  Sony Shared Library

3.  Setting Utility Series

4.  Vaio Event Centre

This should fix the Fn Keys.  You can download these from here: -

Thanks for your reply and suggestion;

I cannot install the Setting Utility Series as Win 7 doesnt allow me to install it.

Is there any way around that?

Many thanks

I would try it without the Setting Utility Series and see if the Fn Keys work without it.

Alternatively, we may need to try a Windows 7 compatible version from another model.

Just try installing the other three utilities in order a second time - sometimes it takes more than one try.

I must admit I have left my old K-Series running XP to avoid such stress!

Hi thanks again Blencogo but still no better... :slight_frown:

I'm not sure what to do anymore.... It took me ages to installl Win 7 as I had to copy files elsewhere etc and I do not want to revert back to XP.

Surely there must be away to resolve this.

The internet speed is terrible as well and my resolution is 1280 x 800 max.

I love my laptop and it has served me well for years (all i do is surf the net and watch films on it)

How much RAM do you have installed? I think your model was sold with 512MB - which is not enough to run Windows 7 and also support your Intel GMA 900 graphics output which needs 128MB just for itself.  You probably need to max out the RAM up to 2048 MB when running the resource hungry Windows 7 and to help out your struggling Pentium M processor.

I would go to the Intel website and look for the latest Windows 7 drivers for the Intel GMA 900 Graphics and also the Intel Wireless LAN.  These may help your graphics and your wireless.

You can either look for these manually or try the automatic driver update utility program here: -

Hi mate,

Thanks again.

I have 1gb installed.

The 'detect' from the sony website doesnt work as it just hangs.

I'm not too worried about the Video drivers just yet...just really need to sort out brightness. Is there any other way of doing this without the FN keys.

I cannot beleive why it's so complicated.

I have tried everything from this forum as well:
