Updating Software on a PCG-737 on Vaio-link.com

Good evening!

I realized this afternoon that Vaio-link.com had some software to upgrade my PCG-737 laptop, which now runs on Win 98 SE. The machine is soon 6 year-old, the proposed upgrades around 3-4 year-old... When I unzip the downloaded files there are but a few .drv or .inf files, no set up files, no readme to explain. I do not know how to use these upgrades, how to install them. Please help !!!

Hi!
The DRV files are Driver files (a now extinct format) and provide the translation between the hardware and Windows 98.
The INF files are the Information files and provide Windows 98 with all of the information needed to install and configure the driver.

Generally, if the laptop works then don't bother with applying the driver updates. "If it ain't broke don't fix it!"

If you really want to apply the new drivers, unzip them to a temporary location such as C:\Windows\Temp. Then press the Windows logo key and Pause/Break to access Device Manager.
(Alternatively, click start, run and type in "sysdm.cpl" without quotes).
Then click and expand the hardware, and from there double click it or click Properties. Click Update Driver and follow the on-screen instructions.

If you computer has been running this well for this long then don't bother with these updates - get some of the software updates of interest instead.

I have to agree with James, if it works well, leave well alone.
