Hello All,
I have a Vaio EA3S1E that I bought a few years ago and obviously is well out of warranty.
I am having a couple of issues with it, the one I want to ask about is related to the power button (the other is related to battery issues). It seems to have more or less completely stopped working. It gradually became intermittent, meaning that I couldnt turn the laptop on, over time it has become less and less responsive to the point where it never seems to work. Fortunately I have discovered I can still turn the laptop on by pressing the 'Assist' button, then restarting out of the recovery dialogue that appears. Obviously this is an unfavorable work around as it increases the time it takes to begin using the laptop significantly.
I finally got to the point where I disassembled the laptop to check the button function - to my suprise it seems that the button itself is working fine - when connected to a multimeter the switch closes the circuit everytime it is pressed. Has anyone come across this problem before - is there some physical issue somewhere on the main board, be it solder joint or IC, or could it be some software bug?
