Hi all,
I was half thinking of upgrading my laptops hardrive to a 500GB one. (From 200GB)
Can anyone see why this

Wouldn't work in this

I'll also get a cloning kit like this

If anyone has already done this your thought would be most welcome.
You should be OK.
Early 2.5 inch discs with high capacities used to be too thick but this one seems to be 9.5mm high which should be OK.
Cool, thanks Blencogo.
It's actually quite hard to find a decent cloning kit (amazon.com won't post it outside the states) but hopefully I'll find something on e-bay
I've heard cloning software can have trouble with hidden partitions like the recovery partition on VAIO's so if anyone has tried it or knows good software let me know.
I thought this software was just a bit rate copier so hidden or not I assumed it would have no problems.
To clone you should buy a 2.5" usb sata hdd shell from ebay and download acronis migrate easy ... that is what i have always used and it works a treat ever time! Should cost <£10 for the lot
Good stuff, Haven't fully decided to do it but I'm running out of space fast. I'm one of those people that will defrag etc but never delete anything lol. 2.5 times the capacity should keep me happy for another while.
Final (stupid) question but it has to be asked. The 2.5" shells you see on e-bay all contain the conections built in that will seat the drive and have a usb outlet that'll take a normal usb cable. A yes/no answer is all I need and I feel stupid for asking it in the first place but you know how these things go.
The only thing you have to worry about doing is getting the sata connection. All the shells should have a usb cable and a case the fits the HDD: search: 2.5" sata hdd case on ebay and i am sure you will come across hundreds of them.
Thanks again.
The best thing about a cloned HD is not having to worry about your virus subscription etc. They should all migrate smoothly.
Hmmm what about now HDD: 1T(which model will fit ) and more ram :what is the limit i think i saw somewhere up to 4G if i want 2X4G i mean 8G ram
