Repairing wired headphones cable

I have an old pair of Sony MDR CD280 headphones. The cable has been damaged and I would like to repair it. I have electrical tape but that looks horrible, so I would prefer to glue it… does anyone know the type of plastic headphone cables are made from? I don’t want to make the problem worse!

Hi @SparklyStuff,

what about soldering the cables and putting heat shrink tubing over it?

Or is it not yet ripped apart?

That’s a good idea, but the cable isn’t yet ripped open. It’s just loose. I’m trying to pre-empt that, and thought a spot of glue under the joint would be enough – I just don’t want to use the wrong type of glue.
