problem with ear phone slot on my xperia Z

Hi,

I got Xperia Z on April 2013.

I started experiencing problems with my ear phone slot few days back. It can play music when i put on the earphones but not when i put on the headset. I checked the headset with other sony mobiles & it was working fine. I did enquire about it at the sony authorized service center yesterday. They informed me that they would give me a refurbished mobile. 

But my question is that my phone is still under warranty & why can't it be replaced with the new phone. Or whether my phone could actually be repaired & I could get the same phone back ?

Depending or where you are in the world normally after 30 days they are lawfully allowed to offer a repair or offer a refurbished item that is of the same quality as the one needing repaired
