Hi,
Bought phone of eBay few days ago and used it on holiday in Duabi today in the swimming pool for less than 3 minutes at a depth of under 0.85M. After taking 2-3 pictures the phone just froze and came to Lock screen and then the touch display did not work.
After taking out of water and leaving phone at the side came back to use and now screen is not turning on. I have checked and called the phone and it works but restarted it several times and charged it but nothing comes up on screen.
CAN ANYONE EXPLAIN AS I WAS TOLD THIS IS WATERPROOF AND I TESTED IT WHICH I WAS SCARED TO DO AND NOW PHONE SCREEN DOES NOT DISPLAY ANYTHING!
Just got an email from Sony:
"Unfortunately, the repair of your device has been delayed. We are doing everything we can to complete the repair of your device and send it back to you as soon as possible. We apologise for the inconvenience."
Hi,
I got the same issue, I've wanted to try the underwater pictures. So after hesitating a moment I put it in 10cm of water to take some pics. I didn't want to play long so I only let it under for 5 minutes. For the first few minutes it was ok, but then the screen didn't respond of certain aeras.
Turns out the central column went dead, impossible to click on anything on that (important) part of the screen.
I came here to see if there was a solution and some said that after some days it came back ok, so I waited 2 days but it went worse. The screen went black on occasions and sometimes even blank.
Came back here and saw that a rebuilt coud make it work too, so I tried that which was pretty hard with a screen half working.
After everything failed I sent it to sony, they sent me on the 18th novembre a cost estimate of 370€!!!
I called them and even contacted them by chat, they told me the phone wasn't correctly used, that I didn't respect their terms of use for that phone.
5 min in 10cm of water ? Really?? So I contested that bill.
After one week I did a second chat to know how it was working out, and they said that they were still investigating and that the case was sent to the directors (don't really believe that). The only thing they said too was that I changed the software and thus could have ended the warranty!
I mean **bleep** guys? Their phone isn't waterproof and when it comes back waterloggued they turn the thing over to have the costumers pay for their faults ?
I angry and frustrated and don't know what to do. Pay for the repairs knowing that it comes from a faulty phone, or don't pay and pay either way for the sending charges to find myself with a useless 679€ phone.
And still no word from them.
I have read somewhere that court have ruled that software changes should not void the warranty of manufacturing defects.
In your case it is water damage due to maufacturing defect (plugs where not able to hold water) and it is nowhere related to software. Please do some research on it and ask them to proof that software can affect the lids of the port.
I found this
http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=CELEX:31999L0044:FR:HTML
in french, but basically it says what you said, I'm thinking about sending it to them.
@meestyna
Any updates on your repair status?
obviously it is Sony hardware design & quality control problem
I will post a new topic to discuss what big problem on Sony smartphone
I got the Same problem.
Take it to the Pool, the first 2-3 Minutes everything is working, after going out the Screen don´t proper work. After 10 Minutes the Touch function is dead and everything else is working, also the screen.
After 2 Days, i touch the screen again and it works. But the last 2 Weeks the touchinput often not response. Since yesterday from now on 10 hours, the touch not response again, but the Screen goes on. I can take Pictures, hear music or can vol+- my Phone but touchinput is dead.
Also i can´t start the recovery since day 1, because the Vol+ pressing or tipping after start when the Sony Logo appears don´t work for me, and the LED is for me not working within the Boot. Only blinks when i get notifications. Do it for about 100 times and don´t get to the recovery.
So now Monday i turn it back, got it from T-mobile Germany, and hoping that the new Phone i get on Thuesday is working fine!
About a month on and the following has happened:
21/11/2014 - Contact Sony regarding warranty repair
24/11/2014 - Sony recieve handset
30/11/2014 - Email from Sony saying repair has been delayed (reason not specified)
8/12/2014 - Sony got in touch to say they haven't got the copper coloured Z3 in stock (or have an ETA for when it will be!) and asked if I would accept a black one.
8/12/2014 - I replied that black would be fine
16/12/2014 - I send another message via support to ask if there was a problem and any ETA
17/12/2014 - Reply from Sony saying they had requested information about the Z3 and they would reply directly when the handset had been dispatched.
19/12/2014 - Probably won't be getting a handset in time for Christmas now 😞
03/01/2014 - Still no update or sign of a replacement handset. Support keep fobbing me off
so I've asked for the postal address to send a complaint to and to start legal proceedings
Okay guys, here's my eXPERIAnce:
I own the Z3 for 2 weeks, and I've been anxious (tbh) to dip it into water the whole time, until yesterday.
We had an Xmas family reunion in a resort with a SPRING WATER POOL (fresh water, not chlorinated!), the temperature of the water was like 30°C — which is a totally normal temperature for a smartphone — because the fresh water comes from a natural hot spring a few hundred meters away from the resort, which is why it cools down until it's led into the pool.
Stuff worked pretty well. I dove 3 times into the pool with the Z3, taking pictures and videos (with Touch Block on), and everything went fine ... until after the 3rd time. Until then I had it under approx. 50 cm deep water for max. 1 minute all in all. The touchscreen wouldn't react anymore from then on. Everything else was normal, just no reaction for the touchscreen.
This morning I googled the **bleep** out of the issue and actually found one option I haven't tried before: I shut down the device by using the tiny red button beside the SIM card slot. Took a toothpicker and shut the device down. Then restarted it with the normal on/off button and voila: the touchscreen reacted again. Strangely enough, all my widgets were GONE from the screens. I have no explanation for that, but right now the device works normal.
I will observe the situation, but one thing I won't do EVER AGAIN: dip it into water. IMHO, Sony promises a capability of a device that isn't given to 100%. It is NOT SAFE to dip the Xperia Z3 into fresh water. FACT.
Seen legally, this is close to scam. You can NOT promise features that are not given and sell a device like that. I'm VERY disappointed, Sony. And the least I would expect from worldwide big brand and company that you are is a proper explanation and putting things right for every customer with that issue.
You fail here, big time.
