Transferring files to computer (Mac) after Kitkat.

Prior to the KitKat update, I was able to ignore the Sony software & use Lightroom to selectively import photos to the computer.
Today, it wasn't letting me. Twice I connected it, twice it told me it wanted to install software & it updated the Sony software. Lightroom (& finder) weren't able to see it; so I contemplated using the Sony Software, but it won't let me browse, so I either have to have camera photos (which doesn't include some of the folders, such as Snapseed, where edited photos are), or "all photos" - which picks up all the images on there - in any package whatsoever! It won't let me browse to particular folders.

In the nofications, it's saying "connected to PC in Media transfer mode" = how can I connect in a "browse" mode & manually copy things?

You can switch to MSC (Mass Storage) instead of MTP (Media Transfer) under Settings -> Xperia Connectivity -> USB Connectivity -> USB connection mode before you connect it to your computer. Only the external SD card will be available in this mode however. For the internal storage you will need to use MTP and a software that supports MTP like Bridge for Mac.
On the left side in Bridge for Mac you should see an option for importing pictures but you can also use a browser for MTP like http://www.android.com/filetransfer/

I've had a bit more of a play:

1: From what I've read, it should be possible to click on the "Connected to PC: Connected in Media Transfer mode" & select another mode. But I can't.

2: I used the Sony Software on the Mac to open up the "browse files" - but when I'd selected the ones I wanted, I could only delete them. It wouldn't let me move or (ideally) copy them to my computer.

(I tried clearing the cache of the app, removing the USB cable & trying again. But it just wanted me to install the software on my Mac. Again!)

[Currently using my NAS to transfer the files to via Wifi; I couldn't use the Wireless transfer, as it's Windows only)

Thanks! I'd actually got the Android Transfer software on my Mac & forgot about it. Works fine; (Lightroom still can't see it; but trivial to copy to desktop & then let Lightroom do its stuff Slightly_smiling_Face )
