Hi,
I have just purchased an A117s notebook. Everything is running well and it has by far the best screen I have seen on any laptop
Just a quick question concerning upgrading drivers.
Firstly, has anyone installed SP2 and if they have how are you finding it, any issues etc...
Secondly it seems that the ati display drivers are currently about 7 months old, from the look of it they are just standard ati drivers with nothing special done by Sony to them, is this the case, and if so has anyone installed the latest Omega 4.8 Cat drivers, if so how are they?
Thanks for any advice
SP2 is fine but I would suggest you have the minimum of applications running when you install it.
Having said that if it is an automatic "download and install "you may already have it!
I have only made the comment cos I have installed it on four computers and everything was fine on three but whilst I was installing it on the fourth I was in the middle of setting the computer up and I think this caused problems (no icons on the desktop even after reboot)
Can't comment on the Omega drivers, I don't play games on my laptop and I find the standard drivers OK for everyday use.
I wouldn't suggest overclocking the graphics though as you may get heat related problems.
Glad you like your Lappy,
William
Omega drivers are held in high regard by many people and I'm sure they work just fine. But they screwed my laptop up so don't do anything you don't know how to undo. I actually have modded desktop drivers (via a different route) and they made no difference whatsoever to the old ones so unless you are really stuck then don't bother. And expect the 7 month old drivers to get a lot older before there's an update.
lol, yep sony dont 'do' new drivers..
not for a long time anyway,
i installed the omega cat drivers from here

theyre supposed to be good...apparently, but theres no difference and as tyger said, you might be taking a risk
just stick with your original drivers for now
Why does it look like the A series has so many issues, look down the list and you see Axxxx not working / drivers needed. Seems such a shame - it's a nice model.
Sony don't seem to be too quick to roll out drivers for the graphics card
A series is beautiful..its like the Porche of laptops
wish i had the money for one
The problem isL they've got problems ... and not just a few...
thanks all for your advice,
So far I have had no issues whatsoever with the laptop, I am quite computer literate so not overtly worried if any software issues arise, if hardware, thats another matter, but tbh seems fine to me.
With regards to the Omega I think I'll install them and see how they are, if no good will just reinstall original drivers. I won't be over clocking them for sure as not a good idea in a laptop, but the later Cat drivers are far better than the earlier ones.
I'll report my findings when I have time to upgraded them
I'll wait for sp2 though, heard so many issues about them.
The only problem I have encountered is the Wireless connection disconnecting, I might try a firmware update on the
USR 5450.
