Hi,
Im having problems playing dvds on my s1xp. They dont play at all. This is a brand new laptop 1 week old. It will read normal cd's. Anyone had any problems with this?? Any known software problems??
Thanks in advance.
Ryan

or if video? which zone are they? and where did u bug your machine
and where did u bug your machine

I have the exact same prolem. I recently bought this S1XP from PC World Business and went and bought 100 DVD+R's and 20 DVD-RW's and none of them work. The drive just makes a funny noise for a minute then gives up. Someone help!
Many thanks in advance if you can solve this!
shawnzaman, have you tried playing a bought DVD movie or something similar in your DVD drive? It sounds to me like you bought the cheapest DVD's in the shop, which rather sadly for most drives mean they won't work properly.
My question is why are so many people having problems with DVDs? They're brand new machines, yet they won't play them?
This is like the 6th case this week.... odd
Tesco are selling TDK 1-4x 4.7gb DVD-RW at 3 for £9.97 in case anyone reading these threads wisely decided that a cheap brand isn't so wise
. Not as cheap as ordering online I know but it's pretty good for the high street.
It does seem odd Kee-lo, I buy PC-worlds ultra cheap CD-Rs that are like 100 for £15 and I never had a single problem with them. Maybe DVD's/DVD drives are more susceptible.
Tyger,
Tesco have Memorex 4x DVD+R (5pk) for the same price. It's good media too.
I think a lot of issues has to do with cheap layers on DVDs. If it's not Ritek (official now) then forget it.
some dvd drives dont read dvd -r...
are you sure its not a dvd+r drive? tho extremely unlikely..
Interestingly, my drive never read anything until i updated its drivers tho sony never update drivers..
another of my drives never read dvd-ram disks until i installed power dvd? no clue why..odd
Furthermore, ive seen two types of dvd-r s, V.1.0 and V.2.0
im sure newer drivers only read the updated types of dvds
It gets very confusing....
