Hi, I have a VPCEB2MOE that is less than two years old. I don't know if the warranty is for 1 year or 2 years But my laptop has almost completely failed in the last 2 days. System check by windows says I have hard drive and memory erros detected. I don't know what these mean, I don't even know if they are a result of viruses and trojans, As far as I am aware I have a functional up to date antivirus and it hasn't detected anything.
I tried to restore the system but that didn't fix anything at all. it says i have hard drive, RAM, and system registry errors. Please shed some light on this.

Hi SAXMAN,
The System Recovery will return your Vaio back to factory condition - so programs like Microsoft Office Starter 2010 will be reinstalled.
You will lose any software you have added since new and all your data, files and settings will be lost unless you have backed them up. You will have to set up the Vaio from scratch as you did when you first used it.
You will also have to install all Microsoft and Vaio Updates - this could take some time!!
You may not need Recovery Discs if the hard drive recovery is still OK. Download the Troubleshooting and Recovery Guide for your model from here: -
ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/pub/manuals/RecoTS/2010Q2_TRG_EN.pdf
and follow the section which is headed "Recovering Your Computer" then the section "To Recover from the Recovery Area". To start the recovery, you need to press the ASSIST button when the Vaio is turned off.
Think about it before you do a full recovery - there may be some files you need to try to back-up before you do the Recovery.
Hi SAMXAN.
Can you post a screen-shot of this System Check window?
There is probably nothing at all wrong with your computer. A malware program is , I think, creating false alerts and is a SCAM.
System Check is probably nothing to do with windows - it is likely to be a program you have accidentally downloaded when visiting a website and it does nothing except give you lots of false error reports in the hope that they will force you to buy the full version of System Check. It is at best a scam to get money out of you and at worst it could clone your credit card details - so DON'T part with any money.
Have a look at these links to see more about System Check and how to remove it from your computer: -
Hi, thanks for replying, I cannot take a screen shot as I can't access documents or paint or anything like that. I can just about access google chrome. You're also right. It did ask for some payments for a product. My desltop appears black, I do not see any of the icons that I usallly have. How do I get rid of this trojan, I have Mcaffe, but i do not see that as well as I cannot access anything in my computer, just google chrome.
Do you know of any free programmes that will remove this spyware thing. The one you reccomened, spyhunter asks you to pay once it has detected malware. Thanks
Hmmmmm ........
I've had a quick look and most seem to end up with "Spyware Doctor" which charges for the removal process.
Unless someone else here has a link, I guess it's a Google session to find the most reliable solution.
It is always better to have the technical team to check it for you. They should be the one who can identify a type of problem.

Exactly what technical team are you talking about?
Hi,
I have managed to delete the system check thing. I don't think I have unistalled the programme as i couldn't see it in control panel where you unistall programmes. I searched for where the system check folder and files and deleted them one by one, emptied the recycle bin etc.I did all of this in safe mode. I now don't see it on my computer, and I no longer keep getting those annoying messages. However, my computer desktop still appears black, I still don't see my icons and still don't see all the programmes. I don't think this thing can be gotten rid off as easily. Any suggestions?
OK, i have downloaded Spyhunter and ran a scan. It has detected 430 threats, most are spyware cookies with bar level 1 out of 5 threat. 3 are homepage hackers with 3/5 level threat. So, this doesnt tell me if i have removed the system check thing. i still don't have some of my computer features back, especially the stuff on the start menu.
I'm not sure it is practical to remove this program manually. Some files are hidden and Registry items need to be changed also. I think there is also a RootKit involved.
Did you have no luck finding a cheaper solution for removing System Check using Google? I have not had time to search but there did seem to be several solutions available. It is sensible to follow a set removal procedure of some sort.
Did you make a set of Recovery Discs when you first bougtht your Vaio? If it proves impossible to remove System Check completely, you may have to reinstall the operating system and return your Vaio back to factory settings.
