How to increase my very slow Broadband speed

I have just installed Virgin XL Broadband which delivers 32 Mbs to my son's Macbook, but only 4 Mbs to my Vaio Laptop, even when wired.  I have no Firewalls and am using AVG Free, and I can't find any way of increasing the speed.  Can you help ?

This seems to be new. I haven't encountered any problem like this before. Have you tried running both computer at the same time without anything downloading process or whatsoever?
