My laptop will not connect wirelessly to the Internet even though the switch is on and lights up during boot up and then goes off

Having recently done a disc clear and defrag my machine will not connect to Internet wirelessly. The switch is on and the light comes on during boot up and then goes off. Help.

Which model of Vaio do you have?

Is the wireless device showing and reported as working in Device Manager.

In Vaio Control Center > Network Connections > Vaio Smart Network > Advanced -is WLAN turned on?
