Any ideas as to when Sony intends to offer this laptop with Windows 8 as a preinstalled option?

I think your question should say "IF" and not "WHEN".

Sony never release this information in advance - all you can do is keep an eye on the website.

I wonder if Sony see the touch screen Duo 11 as a replacement - the SVD1121Z9EB has very similar specifications: -

I really hope they do not see the touch screen duo or hybrids as natural replacements, there is still a significant market desire for a high spec traditional laptop which the Z series neatly fills.
