Now a material defect was found on Xperia Z which may result waterproof failure in particular situation:
If you are a heavy gaming man, playing much on Xperia Z making it very hot then cool down again and again, the waterproof adhesive tape on the back glass would get distorted at the hottest up corner due to the temperature change, then back glass corner would arch up, finally the phone would lost waterproof ability.
If you find below happens on your Xperia Z, you need to get repair as soon as possible. I think Sony realy need to change the waterproof adhesive tape provider.

You can see in the OP photo the waterproof tape near the camera is thinner, when temperature changes this thinner piece is easily arched up. This is the weakness on the phone to break waterproof.
this is quite interesting, do you have any source links?

this is quite interesting I hope a Sony Moderator can check this
5 million + devices sold - a few on here with leaks usually because they didn't check/close the flaps properly - I think complete b************t
@GeoffH do you think that maybe a user didn't closed the flap all the way and then perhaps damaged the sides so he/she could claim manufacture defect? its possible, as you said, 5million units and this is the first time I've seen something like that.
every water resistant phone's nightmare,,,
Far as I know many users got beads inside the camera glass after a water dive but without water test paper turn red, so this should be the reason.
I have a problem, I have been raised a bit the rear panel, I guess for the warming, but now when I make photographs are blurred night, apparently tempered rear panel has been moved or lifted a few millimeters and the flash does not work correctly: (
So far I am not happy about's Sony's lack of effort to work with me on this. I've requested they at least meet me half-way, get me into a refurbished model or get me a new one at cost. They haven't bothered putting the right sort of manager on the phone who can make a **bleep** decision. This is my son's phone, and he absoutely close everything up before he rinsed the phone off after someone got honey on it. The camera immediately steamed up. The issue is, these phones can't get wet if they are warm! My son does indeed do a lot of gaming on the phone, and as en engineer I strongly suspect Sony didn't do adequate testing on those conditions.
I'l give Sony 2 more days, and then we give up on and hit the external consumer boards with our disapointment.
