Sony Bravia AF9 new firmware v6.5016 Jan 2021 annoying power consumption notification

The new firmware just installed on my TV has introduced a very annoying notification about power consumption. You have to click “ok” or "cancel" on the pop up notification every time picture mode or picture brightness setting is changed.

It is such a stupid implementation because even if you are choosing a less bright/lower power consumption mode you get this notification which you have to click through.

Which numpty thought this was a good idea and how the hell did it get through quality control? Don't need to see this multiple times every time the settings are changed. Please remove it or restrict it to only once each time you go into settings or provide an option to turn it off by the next update.

This really sucks, being able to quickly change the brightness was great until this stupid message. I would understand if it would turn red above certain level, but it is there even when you lower it. Realy inteligent move considering how "inteligence" is one of the buzzwords of the decade probably.

This pop up message was implemented based on the latest EU legislation for power consumption with more than one brand not only the Sony ones, LG TVs as well have been implemented to the EW regulations. But surely this will be taken into consideration in future software updates.

I have two different 2020 LG TVs, both fully up to date, and they let me play with the brightness, etc., without a hint of such messages.

Perhaps they have noticed that we are not in the EU?

But the issue with these Sony sets is that Sony’s quick fix for this has no memory, so it has to be applied to every single operation, instead of being noted internally as you make adjustments and only reported the once when you finish adjusting, and even then only if your adjustments have led to a net increase in the set’s power consumption.

I’m sure moves are or will be afoot to rethink reporting on this basis, but it will be quite a big and complex change; and so we must keep up the negative feedback so that Sony do not decide to let this slide.

Sony did actually change the behaviour of the EU recommendation in latest firmware

Doesn't help owners of the A9, last firmware update was v6.5042 on the 24th of February 21 and I hate to be pessimistic, but it feels like that's as much as we're getting, that's how much they care about the people that buy their products, I almost bought an LG, really wish I had, we live and learn.

They need to also fix the AF9 firmware then!

My friends LG OLED with latest firmware doesn't have large power consumption messages.

Since they recognized the problem on the newer line up I don't see why they shouldn't fix it also on the previous ones. It is annoying but in any case I don't think a user is ticking every minute the brightness of the tv, IMHO

Thankfully I don't go in and change the settings that often.

As a matter of principle though a premium priced Sony TV should not have such a clunky implementation. Would be disappointed to see that on one of the low end Chinese  OLED TV's.

As Sony have now fixed it on newer models I expect it to be fixed on the AF9, otherwise my next TV wont be a Sony.
